How can I use your backup mail (backup mx) services if I do not use Sitelutions DNS?

Using our backup mail service is very simple. However, if you are not using our DNS, backup mail requires an extra step.
You'll need to configure an MX record for our backup mail server as a secondary MX record.
First, go into the Backup MX Control Center from the Account Control Center.
This will allow you to configure your newly purchased Backup MX "slot" -- you must configure this slot to provide backup mail services for your domain. While you'd normally be able to tell the system to automatically setup DNS for you, you need not do this if you're using your own external DNS servers.
Once you complete setup of your record, take a look at the backup mail server(s) that your slot has been setup on. These will display on your Backup MX Control Center. Depending on your backup MX, you may see one or more servers listed. They will be mx#.sitelutions.com, where "#" is a number.
Simply add an MX record to your own DNS for mx#.sitelutions.com (the backup mail server you were assigned). If your Backup MX package includes multiple servers for redundancy, you may create one MX record for each server.
Be sure to include a trailing dot (".") after the fully-qualified domain mx#.sitelutions.com. This is necessary for all DNS records. Also, make sure your MX preference number is a higher number than that of your other MX record (for your primary mail server). If your backup MX package includes multiple servers, simply make the MX preference slightly higher for each server.
Example:
yourdomain.com has MX record with MX preference of 0: mail.your-primary-mail-server.com. You now create records for yourdomain.com: mx1.sitelutions.com. with MX preference of 10 and mx2.sitelutions.com. with MX preference of 20
Good job!
