Can you transfer ownership of domains?
Posted by Trey T on 03 January 2013 10:07 PM

Many times, a third-party has setup or is managing one or more domains on behalf of the owner(s) of those domains.  In many cases, however, the third-party becomes unresponsive, or for whatever reason the owner of the domain chooses to take control of the domain.

The simplest way to take control of this domain is to sign up for Sitelutions at https://www.sitelutions.com/signup .  Once you have done that, have the current domain manager e-mail Sitelutions providing us with your domain name(s) and your subscribed e-mail address (the one you've just signed up with).  This account-to-account transfer is done free of charge.

In hostile situations, or situations where you cannot contact the third-party who is managing your domain(s), we still may be able to help you if you are listed as the administrative contact or registrant in the public WHOIS registration database.  You will need to send us a fax containing the following information:

  • Your full name and address.
  • Your e-mail address as listed in the public WHOIS database.
  • One or more of your telephone contact numbers (we reserve the right to require both a land line and a cell phone number in some cases).  These numbers should ideally be listed in the WHOIS database.
  • A signed letter stating that under the penalty of perjury under United States law (please replace US with "United States and [country]" law if you are not in the USA), you are the rightful owner of the domain name and would like it transferred to your Sitelutions account.
  • At least one telephone number registered in your name, at which you can be reached.  Two telephone numbers, such as a cell phone and a home phone will help to expedite the process.
  • A copy of your government identification (driver's license or passport preferred).  We reserve the right to request two forms of ID.
  • A copy of a utility bill showing your name and address.
  • A copy of the front and back of one of your credit cards, providing the card number (written), the expiration date, and the card verification number (last 3 digits on the back of Visa and Mastercard, 4 small digits on the front of American Express), and a statement giving us permission to charge your card a processing fee equal to $200 for the first domain plus $50 per additional domain.  This statement should be signed.

This information should be faxed to (866) 588-0912.

As specified, we will charge $200 for the first domain, plus $50 per additional domain to move domains in cases where we need to manually verify your information.  We reserve the right to deny any requests and will refund the processing fee if the request is denied.

If you have further Questions, please contact us by phone.

Thanks,
Sitelutions Support
